Recovery knowledge from those who have been there
TRUE RECOVERY RVA
The lived experience of those associated with True Recovery equips us to help individuals seeking recovery. We consider this lived experience a privilege and have a passion for leading others down the pathway. We support many pathways to recovery, including those on medically assisted treatment (MAT). We know that recovery is the solution to addiction and look forward to the opportunity of showing others the freedom from addiction and hope that recovery provides.
How We Can Help
True Recovery provides our residents with a chance to recover from Substance Use Disorders in an environment created by those with lived experience. Our residents live in a home environment with others who are all seeking recovery and possess a willingness to put in the necessary work. The residence is equipped with comfortable living conditions and a feeling of home.
One-on-one recovery coaching in partnership.
We've been there too. We advocate on behalf of residents in dealing with the courts.
MEDICAL / CLINICAL REFERRAL

A place to gain a sense of belonging through networking, building support, education and giving back.
Safe, comfortable, and supportive mental health and substance abuse services.
Individualized Recovery Exposure
For individuals who continually struggle to grasp recovery, True Recovery offers an individualized shadow program.
This involves nearly constant interaction with and exposure to people in long-term recovery. The individual will spend their days in an recovery coaching environment, learning from years of first hand experience. The shadow program increases the individual’s accountability while reducing their toxicity to peers also in the residence.
The shadow program provides the individual with the unique experience of learning how to live without the use of drugs or alcohol while dealing with every day life.

Coleman is a person in long term recovery from substance use disorder. While he was a resident at a local recovery organization, he found that he had a passion for helping others with the same struggles that he had and made it his mission to help others find recovery from substance use disorder. Coleman began his journey with True Recovery RVA in February of 2018. He oversees all men’s housing, collects rent for the organization, does payroll weekly and maintains all housing and program costs. He is a court advocate for True Recovery RVA and does community outreach to further the mission of True Recovery RVA. Coleman is also a mentor and a peer recovery specialist and utilizes his personal recovery experience to help others in the organization.
